Although much rarer than traditional white diamonds, yellow diamonds are quite common among fancy colored diamonds. There is a frequent misconception that anatural yellow diamond is less valuable than a colorless diamonds. However, Intense and vivid fancy yellow diamonds can be worth a great deal of money although very light or slightly yellow stones are fairly common and have much less value.



Yellow diamonds with secondary brown tones are worth substantially less than pure yellow stones. However, secondary colors of green-yellow or orange-yellow can considerably raise the value of the stone due to the fact that these diamond colors are even rarer than yellow diamonds.



Natural yellow diamonds are rated by their strength and intensity of color. The highest-quality grade is the Vivid Yellow, followed by the Intense Yellow diamond. The lowest quality of natural yellow diamond is the Light Yellow diamond, followed by the Fancy Yellow. Some shades of Vivid Yellow diamonds as well as the rarer Intense Yellow diamonds are called Canary Diamonds. Canary yellow diamonds are the rarest amongst yellow diamonds and for that reason they cost much more and are desirable by both investors and classy buyers. It is essential that the stone is purchased with a grading report from a reliable diamond laboratory for example GIA, HRD, IGI or EGL. The report must state that the diamond color is "Natural". The report should also describe the intensity of color, in addition to how the color is distributed throughout the diamond.
