Are Yellow Diamonds Valuable?

Although much rarer than traditional white diamonds, yellow diamonds are quite common among fancy colored diamonds. There is a frequent misconception that anatural yellow diamond is less valuable than a colorless diamonds. However, Intense and vivid fancy yellow diamonds can be worth a great deal of money although very light or slightly yellow stones are fairly common and have much less value.

Yellow diamonds with secondary brown tones are worth substantially less than pure yellow stones. However, secondary colors of green-yellow or orange-yellow can considerably raise the value of the stone due to the fact that these diamond colors are even rarer than yellow diamonds.

Natural yellow diamonds are rated by their strength and intensity of color. The highest-quality grade is the Vivid Yellow, followed by the Intense Yellow diamond. The lowest quality of natural yellow diamond is the Light Yellow diamond, followed by the Fancy Yellow. Some shades of Vivid Yellow diamonds as well as the rarer Intense Yellow diamonds are called Canary Diamonds. Canary yellow diamonds are the rarest amongst yellow diamonds and for that reason they cost much more and are desirable by both investors and classy buyers. The canary diamond has a very unique shade of yellow, and even if you have never seen a Canary Yellow before, if you were to see one, you will realize that it is a Canary Diamond.

Yellow diamonds are typically set in yellow gold. When it comes to the diamond setting, yellow diamonds look spectacular if they are combined with white ones, as the white stones create a strong color contrast. If you happen to choose a yellow diamond to be the center stone for your three stone ring, then it is recommended to include white side stones and trapeze, triangle or oval shapes can make an ideal match.

Similar to other natural fancy color diamonds the coloration remains the main thing that has a bearing on the value of the diamond, then comes size and clarity. Clarity is also crucial in the evaluation of fancy yellow diamonds, though this is much less than in traditional white diamonds.

Natural fancy colored diamonds are mostly found in the Radiant cut, as this is considered the ideal shape for increasing the color. Yellow diamonds, however, can also be found in Oval Cut an Cushion cut and in Heart and Pear shapes. The rarest are the Emerald, Square Emerald and the Brilliant cuts (round shape). The price of these shapes are substantially higher for all fancy diamonds and not merely for yellow diamonds.

Colored diamonds are held to an entirely different standard in regards to cut quality. The objective when cutting a color diamond is to intensify the depth and saturation of the diamond's color while striking a balance between the carat weight and brilliance. It is essential that the stone is purchased with a grading report from a reliable diamond laboratory for example GIA, HRD, IGI or EGL. The report must state that the diamond color is "Natural". The report should also describe the intensity of color, in addition to how the color is distributed throughout the diamond.

The Kimberley Octahedron is the largest naturally formed actohedral diamond in the world. It's owner, who is the mine owner has decided against cutting this diamond at alland wishes to keep it in its original conditiontherefore the color and distribution grades are not able to be applied to this magnificent diamond.
